Befores and Afters: A Walk Down Memory Lane

Some several years ago I drew the comic below in black and white for an inktober prompt. I don't exactly remember how long ago it was, as it's been a minute but, I fell in love with this little comic. I'm a big lover of all things punny and to me this is one of my favorite in that regard. You see, I love making people laugh but, for whatever reason when it comes to telling jokes in a real life setting, I freeze up. Take this scenario for instance: everyone is cracking jokes, contributing joke after joke when it's their turn and then! When the gauntlet is passed to me and it's my turn to share a joke of my own the laughter stops and an awkward silence ensues. Yes, I'm that kind of person. Lately, I've been struggling to interact with others socially which is why I love making comics as I can share a part of myself that I'm unable to share with others in real time. As such, I've settled to be a comic with comics if you will.

And, on a slightly different note, I enjoy looking back on older works as they take me back to that point in time when I was just starting out. These early drawings also illustrate how far I've come as an artist. It is this realization that sometimes, or often times, propels me to want to re-envision an old work with a new spin.

Fast forward to today, and the comic you see below is redone in full color with some of my previous mistakes atoned for. Granted, there are still some mistakes in the version shown below, and being the perfectionist that I am there is a growing desire to want to revisit this again and fix every little mistake I can find but, as Samm Henshaw sings in Enough:

Why I always gotta be perfect?

Sometimes, I go, I try to make everything so perfect

But it's not and it's cool

'Cause it's real when it's true

But, I digress, so if you liked this redo you are sure to love Apples, Bananas, and Neurons because in essence it is a series of short stories, within a larger overarching story, that I redrew from me to you, in several hues, that I can't wait for you to peruse.

Apples, Bananas, and Neurons coming soon!
